WHO_Omega Workshops Rugs
WHAT_An amazing design group which was founded by The Bloomsbury Group in 1913.
WHEN_ Stumbled across visiting Somerset House recently.
WHERE_Unfortunately the exhibition has now ended.
WHY_ These Rugs were hung like pieces of art and immediately caught my eye. The abstract patterns and cubist designs and colours appealed to me instantly, and I was shocked to find these were designed between 1913 – 1916. This collective of forward thinking artists were obviously way ahead of their time. After reading more I found out that Roger Fry, the founder, wanted to break away from the mainstream Edwardian interior design and push ahead with work inspired by art being created in Europe.
‘It is time that the spirit of fun was introduced into furniture and into fabrics. We have suffered too long from the dull and the stupidly serious.’
Every piece of pottery, furniture or fabric was produced anonymously, bearing only the Greek letter Ω (Omega) – which is similar to the way some auctions are curated these days. I love the idea that anyone was able to purchase a piece of art, whatever their budget. These days you will need to be quite flush though, you can buy there here from £5,000.

WHO_Artist and print maker Saskia Pomery
WHAT_Her solo show ‘This Time’
WHEN_Opening night July 5th
WHERE_Wayward Gallery, Vyner Street, London
WHY_The show will feature an array of silkscreen prints of hand drawn and hand cut stencils to digitally rendered compositions. Using colour overlays and perspective, she uses colours that are meaningful to her, repeating them throughout the work. These are contrasted with cooler accents and vibrant pattern-making. The work is concerned with the arrangements of shapes and patterns as objects on different lines of vision, like a still life perhaps. Each shape element can take on a personality or resemblance to objects or a personal narrative. The show is going to be amazing, I should know, I’ve had sneak previews!

WHO_Over It & Co and Simon Goode
WHAT_Jazzy foil blocked invite for our book launch and group show
WHEN_February we foil blocked. March we launch and show.
WHERE_Foil blocked in Hackney. Launching in Bloomsbury.
WHY_Simon is the master of book arts and all that comes with it. We asked him make us some invitations for our book launch and show, we choose light grey card and holographic foil. Charlotte (Over It & Co co-founder) designed the invite, ain’t she clever? I went over to watch Simon make our invitations on Monday night, I’m always a sucker for a process so I really enjoying watching ‘the magic happen’. I had a go (pictured below) and I can confirm that foil blocking takes some muscle, thanks Simon for using your muscles and skills! Looking forward to sending the invitations out early next week. Hit read the rest to see some snaps of the process.
